Mourning

Writer's picture: Emily Emily

My heart is heavy. Another mass shooting. Another 49 people killed at the hands of violence and rage. Another 49 people lost to the world of ignorance, fear, and hate.

Why does this keep happening? How do we continue to move forward with no guarantee of tomorrow? How do we lean into love amidst so much hate?

I pray for the families of all those affected by these recent events, as well as all those around the world who have been hurt and caught in the middle of violence. I pray for the future of our world and for the future generations. I pray for peace and for change. I pray for a better tomorrow. I pray for the courage and strength to keep showing up.

It is hard to know what to do in the midst of chaos and violence, but we have to remain strong. We must keep getting up, standing up, and showing up. We must continue professing peace, love, and hope to a broken and hurting world. We must continue to strive to love our neighbors as ourselves, listen to people's stories, and not be afraid to face those who stand against us. We must not let violence define us.

Take time today to tell those closest to you that you love them. Take time today to sit in the darkness while reminding yourself of your inner light. Know that we are stronger and more powerful than any violence will ever be. Reach out to those around you who are hurting, grieving, and reeling from our violent world; take their hand and show them their own strength, worth, and might. Turn off your news updates and sit with one another; just be together. We are stronger together, and we are never truly alone.

Today is another day of darkness in our world. Our hearts our heavy and ours souls mourn. I wish I had more answers and could solve the problems with a flick of the wrist. Sadly, It is not that simple. All I know right now is that we cannot give up, we must lean into love, and we must continue to show up, together, hand in hand.
